I received that same voicemail above. Exactly just today. It was a robotic voice. I called the number back, which was 202-697-9012 and it was an Indian accent fellow saying I owed them back taxes for over 5 years adding up to $4900. I asked them what was my address and they knew that. They actually wouldn't let me hang up, cause at first I was thinking it was a real situation. They said if I hang up they will send the sheriff to my house and arrest me. I was on my home phone and they told me they will call my cell phone and I would need to go out to the bank to get some kind of electronic federal voucher to make the payment. They actually wanted me to be on the phone the entire time, even while I was getting dressed. Then it just hit me, just started to sound weird. The IRS wouldn't do this. The IRS would send me endless mailings, but not call me and hold me hostage on my phone. So I hung up and they have been calling since then, about 30 minutes so far. I really got scared, cause he said my license will be taken away, I would be arrested, all that. Kind of makes you nervous. The part of them holding me hostage on the phone telling me if I hang up they will send the sheriff is what made me start to think something is fishy here. I do owe the IRS about $1200, but I've been paying that off. I'm not sure how they got my records or information but I feel like spamming them back with a lawsuit to scare them.
