Folks, do not answer this call or even call back to request a "do not call" me option. This company is breaking the law. I am on the government's 'Do Not Call' list -- and I suspect at least some of you are too. (The list allows you to input your land-line and wireless numbers.) It is illegal for a company to cold call anyone on the list - and they know it. They also know that it is rare for the government to go after companies who break that law.

When you "option out" all you are doing is confirming that your number is active. That's even more important when cell phones are involved, as they have tended to turn over more often than lines.

If your being called on a land-line, I suggest you consider getting a wireless phone (eg. some inexpensive Panasonics) which have call blocking. Most of our own land-line phones are wireless and have that call blocking option. It works great.

It gets a bit more complicated with cell phones. Verizon Wireless, our current cell phone provider, offers 5 free blocks lasting up to 3 months. Thereafter, you can do another 5). They do offer a larger block list, but you have to pay extra.

In short, if you are being called at your wireless number, and you don't have call blocking as part of your plan, just don't answer a call from area codes you do not recognize. That's not a perfect solution for wireless without call blocking, but it's better than trying to get them to take you off their list.

As noted above, when you opt out all you do is let the company who's taking the illegal action in the first place know that your phone is active. Their computer system will record that info and some of these crooks will sell or rent their updated phone lists (now noting live phone numbers) to other such companies.

Guys, telling these companies that you are on the Do Not Call list, or asking them to remove you from their list, or getting mad at them is just a waste of your time. They couldn't care less. Many if not most of these guys originate their calls from off shore. While it's unlikely to accomplish much, you should still consider filing an official complaint with DoNotCall.gov.

If you're being phone-spammed on a land-line, you might want to consider picking up an inexpensive wireless phone that has call blocking. I got an inexpensive Panasonic about a year or so ago and its been a delight. Get a call, add the pest, don't get any more calls from them.

Company claimed to be an a/c service company (this was their second call to us in 2 days). I told them I've been on the national Do Not Call list for years. Following is supplemental text I provided in my official complaint to DoNotCall.gov:

"This company appears on several web site lists which report numbers engaging in telephone spam to members of the National Do Not Call List. On one of the boards complaints about this number go back to 2009 (see http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-602-235-0070)."

I have a Panasonic wireless phone with call blocking. Yup, added them to my list.

BoA does not have any relationship with this company. See my previous message below dated Nov 5, 2009 08:05 PM.

The last time I spoke with BoA they advised that they were turning the information I gave them over their legal department. I confess to being puzzled that, to the best of my knowledge, no legal action appears to have been taken to date.

Might I suggest that you folks call BoA's customer service. Ask to speak to a manager. Then ask them to pursue this and mention the fact that BoA is having their reputation besmirched by these bums. (Mention this and other forums.) Also contact your state's Attny General's office and ask which department pursues such matters. Then file a complaint.

Finally, as I've noted before, I purchased a Panasonic wireless phone with call blocking. Worked like a charm. I haven't heard from these SoBs since.
