I live in Nevada, and it began this afternoon with a robo call from a number with a Las Vegas area code. The voice said I would earn a free cruise to the Bahamas if I simply took part in a short survey. I figured it was a scam but I played along and answered the questions. Four hours later, I got a call from this Florida number and the guy on the other end touted the free cruise I had won, telling me how great it was and how even all the meals were free. I knew sooner or later he'd ask me for a credit card number and sure enough he did, saying I needed to pay some tax or port entry fee or something. I told him he was a scammer. He tried to tell me he wasn't but I didn't believe him. I hung up. Point is: Anyone who calls you and says you've won something, then wants you to give him a credit card number for any reason, is a scammer. Period. Don't ever give out your credit card number unless you placed the call.
