I work in student financial aid. Got this call on my cell while at work and it sounded phoney...particularly since I do not have current student loan debt, and anyone working with the Department of Education would know that. I waited on hold until I got "Jesse" who said she was from "Federal Student Loan Consolidation." She said that she could help me apply for loan forgiveness if I had a student loan. She confirmed that this was only for Federal student loans. I didn't believe I was talking to anyone associated with Federal Student Aid, so I asked her, "How does this differ from the other loan forgiveness programs I know are offered by the Department of Education?"...and she immediately hung up.
SCAM.
If anyone needs help with repaying their Federal loans, they should contact their loan servicers directly. Also, you can find out all kinds of information about repayment options, consolidation, etc. from the www.studentloans.gov site. Studentloans.gov and NSLDS are legit sites with information about your federal student loans. Make sure that you are talking to legit people when asking for loan repayment assistance and NEVER give any of your personal information out over the phone in response to a robocall.

Said his name was Eddy from the Forgiveness Loan Program (dept of Education). When asked what the name of his company was, he paused and stammered, then hung up.
