Caller ID indicates Performant supposedly a debt collector for IRS but could be a spoofed scam call as well, since the number DOES NOT MATCH the number posted at IRS. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/private-debt-collection SCAMMERS pretend to be anything they can think of these days.

Is a fake IRS call. The IRS do not call, nor do they use 3rd party collection agencies.

I thought so too. I checked on the IRS website. They do use collection companies now. They do send a letter first alerting you to the collection proceedings. If you don't respond, they call. They list all the collection companies they use on the IRS website, and this is one of them.

The IRS does farm out difficult to collect accounts to 4 different collection agencies. And they do call. I can attest to this because I am an Enrolled Agent, licensed by the IRS.

Called my work, requested to record the call. When I asked what the call was regarding the woman said "I can't go into everything, may I record the call" I said sure, whatever, then she said please wait. I said no and hung up. There was quite a long silence before she started speaking when I answered. I'm pretty sure an autodialer was being used.
