What are Government Scam Calls?

Spam calls or robocalls that are claiming to be from a government agency in order to obtain money or private information are called "government scams". The most common government scam call is where the caller pretends to be a tax collector from the IRS, in which they ask you to send money to a bank account in order to not be arrested. It is important to note that this is not the way the IRS gets money from people who owe taxes or from people who have committed tax fraud, so do not believe these callers. Other agencies that robocalls pose as are the FBI, police departments, the Social Security Administration, and others. When people make these calls and pose as government agencies, they are breaking the law and have poor intentions. The best way to ensure you are not getting scammed is to call the government agency the caller is claiming to be apart of directly, and ask them if you truly are wanted for tax fraud, a crime, etc. The real employee from the organization will be able to confirm if you are speaking to a scammer or not. If you are, you should hang up and block the caller from contacting you again.

Yesss i too have been hit by these individual players. I’m contacting a lawyer as well as BBB. I have seen where several people have been through the same thing and commented on the BBB website reported them as well.

I don't have caller ID but checked via "*69". Call was from 800-531-5000.
Dead air when I answered, but took long time after I hung up to clear. If it's Direct TV (as internet indicates), I have NO Direct Tv, never have, never would. Unauthorized, as I have never contacted them.

Scammers and hackers that hacked at&t phone lines conned us out of $98 saying we qualify for 2 iPhone 8s and u called the next day the people couldn't even find my account smh they add need to be locked up

yes someone named machille. transferred service to att direct tv for 2 days, promised service that was not available after disconnecting previous service. wanted to charge 528.00 for termination fees. required intervention by attorney generals office to solve.. do not use att or direct tv
