They try threatening you if you can not make a payment that day. I owed 78.00 to windstream who is now out of business and was bought out by another company. Portfolio recovery tried making me pay 178.00 and said I was not able to pay the company directly. Do not let them bully you into giving them your banking info just hang up and call the company yourself to take care of any outstanding balance you may have. And they called me at 10:34 pm est. which I didn’t think they are allowed by law to call that late. I get up at 3am to get ready for work. I’m in bed by 10:30 pm est

TRICK SCAM - Portfolio Recovery Associates debt collection agency uses to get people to give up their social security number to "verify" who you are, and then to come after you with a lawsuit.

Recorded message: "This call us going to be transferred to the Social Security Administration. Or, if in case you missed the call, you have to give us a call back on 480-787-2833. Verify the last four numbers of your Social Security to better assist you with thus issue. Now, if u Don't hear a call from you, we gave to issue an arrest warrant under your name and get you arrested. So get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you."

Portfolio Recovery Associates debt collection agency even does this to innocent relatives to come after them if they just might have deeper financial pockets. They intimidate, threaten, and force innocent relatives to pay up on behalf of their loved one.

They gave "skip-tracers," so they already know who near relatives are. They make life a living tarnation.

Call constantly; I don't answer; they don't leave a message. I have physical problems that fatigue me. Can't even try to nap because they wake me up.

Debt collection agency, called Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC calling from 866-323-1214. They use different phone numbers to get you to answer and give them your name and address. Multiple calls--I have blocked them.

these guys (portfolio recovery) are one shade away from being loan sharks. but with a twist. instead of loaning you their own money, they buy old and statue barred debt from others for 10 to 20 cents on a dollar and then do whatever (and I mean whatever) it takes to collect somewhere around 40 to 50 cents on a dollar. they only pay their people if they collect, and bonus if they collect big. so the person on the phone has no incentive to listen to your explanation of any kind. the only reason they're still open is because their lawyers are smarter than the Feds. So if you want to get rid of them, contact your state's district attorney's office.
