I, too, received a letter from Synchrony Bank with the 800-480-0186 number to call to verify identity for an AMAZON STORECARD credit product. I had NOT applied for this card but was reluctant to call the number in the letter because of the feedback here and other sites.

Instead I called the fraud department of Synchrony Bank (866-834-3205) and inquired there. The letter was legitimate as it had a valid reference code that was linked to a pending application for said card. I informed them that this was a fraudulent application and they voided the application and will send out notices to the 3 credit bureaus for fraudulent activity.

The agent, however, could not confirm that the letter 800 number is authentic as they do not have access to all the numbers that Synchrony Bank uses. But since the letter was legitimate, I assume that the phone number in the letter was as well.

However, calling the fraud department instead seems a safer way in case you have not actually applied for the listed card in the letter. When you call the fraud number it will give you options to verify your identity if you indeed did apply for the card that the letter was about so no need to call that 800-480-0186 directly (as I could not find that number anywhere on the Synchrony Bank Contact Us website

Said was an issue with a Capital One Walmart credit card. I don't have one. When you do not supply them with the last 4 digits of the card, they ask for 9 digit SS number...….nuh uh.

I got this credit card Scam in the name of WalMart once before a while back. I never let the call go past the start of the robo spiel before hanging up.
There is no legitimate reason for me to ever get a call like this. By petsonal choice I neither have nor use credit cards WalMart or other. No accounts in good order. Certainly no need at all for lower interest rates.
Identity & financial information is trying to be stolen with these criminals.

it's not possible to get a GPS coordinate on their asses to get em where they're sitting!!! Pretty sure this call came from the 'Capital One' People who took over after Discover stopped servicing Walmart cards
I have rec'd calls from them also and it really pisses me off too!

Got the call around 4:15 To lower my interest card rate. I told him that my number was registered with the DO NOT CALL list and that's when they got abusive. He threatened me with violence saying he knew where I lived and that he would come at night, I invited him to come over and that he had his choice of getting greeted with a .45 or a 9mm at which point he hung up.

This number shows up on screen and it is the legitimate number for Walmart Mastercard if you call it back...but I believe that if you answer it when it calls you it connects you to a bogus and phishing caller who is using Walmart's legit number to hide their real number and therefore the possible scam and phishing on the call if you were to answer...I also spoke to Walmart Mastercard and they informed me that they do not call from this number on outbound calls so the number should not be popping up when a legit call from them comes in
