Man with foreign accent and other calls loud background called to say he was from Windows and there was a problem with my computer. Wanted me to write down my computer ID#. After asking several times he had my name. I told him my # is unlisted, I am on MO No Call List and there is no way he should have any info about my computer so it must be a scam. Insisted it was not and wondered who told me it was a scam. I asked for name of his company with a phone # and name of a manager that I could call back to verify and call then went dead. Caller ID said S Sachin 512-355-1269. When I called # back using *67 from another phone line I got a recording wanting me to press 1 if I wanted to opt out of future promotion calls.
Scam call. Person with accent said they were from Microsoft and our computer was downloading a virus. Indicated they could fix if given access to our computer, but did not know our name. Total garbage. Obvious phishing scheme.
A young man with a very clear accent from India or Pakistan called and told me he was from Microsoft, and that my computer needed an update that they weren't able to download it. He wanted to give me instructions about how to enable updates on my computer.
I told him that I didn't respond to "cold calls" where people tell me what to do with my computer, but that I would certainly update my computer as he recommended.
Of course, when I ran Microsoft update it reported that my computer did not need to be updated.
I guy with an foreign accent called on Friday afternoon and said he was from Microsoft Windows and that they got an error warning messages that my computer had issues and I need to get in front of it right away so he can help me fix it. I said I won't be in front of it until Monday, He said that Monday will be too late and my data will be gone by then if we don't fix it now. He says he will call back tomorrow. I told him that I would have my IT guy call him if we need help. I'm sure he wanted to help me by downloading a virus.
A man with a thick foreign accent (possibly Indian)identified himself as Adam and said he was looking for [Company Owner by name]; declined to leave a message, said he'd call back. At no time did he give a company name or state a reason for calling.
