I had a voicemail from this number when I came into work this morning, asking me to call back at: 1-888-426-7995 regarding some payments that had been made in our business with Amex. I was originally suspicious as I was under the impression that we don't accept Amex where I work.

I called Amex on their 'general support' line and explained the situation. The first person I spoke to could not find the 1-888-426-7995 number as being registered in their system, but suggested I try to contact merchant services just in case.

I called merchant services, and she confirmed it IS indeed their number, apparently part of some division called Customer something or other. It looks like we actually are set-up to accept Amex, but since we didn't know it we had never confirmed our account information with American Express, and as a result those payments had never gone through.

In short, it is in fact American Express.

They called me ( I answered after the sixth call) and said they were from American Express. They wanted personal information. I called American Express and they said that is not their number and no one from American Express had called me today.

Called AMEX (REAL ONE) when the called ended ( to my dissatisfaction) I received a call on my home phone (hours later) stating they can correct my issue. I did not call ( did not have time) and then received another call the next day. Called AMEX today, and they called number and not good. I explained that the person who called knew my name and reason why I had contacted AMEX earlier in the day. In speaking with the AMEX today, it was discovered that I had used the CHAT feature on my labtop to speak with AMEX regarding my problem. Clearly their is a breech on my system or AMEX! YIKES.. AMEX is filing a report as we speak. They have the ID number of the Chat person ( from AMEX). AND this is WHY I do not like calling customer service especially when the call centers are OUT OF THE COUNTRY!

While on the phone with Sears, on my main line, i rec'd 1 call on my house phone and 2 on my cell within a few minutes. Was not able to answer any of them. Since I had called AMEX earlier, thought it was some type of survey. But I called that nr of 602-766-6484 and no pickup. Called AMEX again to inquire, lady checked the above nr and its no an AMEX nr. She said its sounds like whoever it was, they were phishing. Advise to stay aware.

Received call claiming to be AMX Fraud Prevention. The call came it to a number that American Express doesn't have and the card has not been used in over 4 years.
They wanted to "verify" some information.

The number purports to be AmEX, it shows up that way on caller ID and if you call it back, the phone message says AmEx.

It is NOT American Express. I called the number on the back of my card, they checked and will be reporting it.

STAY AWAY from this scammer!!!!!
