There were two men tag-teaming us so I finally got them to say -- Mark Anderson and Adam Clark with Credit Card Services at 1-888-270-0699. The caller identification number was StarNet 1-646-666-6139. They informed me that my husband had agreed to letting them negotiate a lower rate for our credit card and that they would charge that same credit card $1,200.00 to do this. This was the first time that my husband had heard this amount and was shocked. I told both of them that we did not want their services. We were not hiring them to negotiate anything on our behalf. We were declining their services, and we were not paying their fee and to not charge anything to our credit card. I was immediately told that I could not decline. They had already negotiated 2% - 6% and that they would charge the card. They claimed to have a confirmation number. My husband stayed on the line with me and told them to cancel the transaction and give us a cancellation number. They said, "he agreed by simply pressing 1 -- After that it was a done deal." At one point, they tried to get me to think that my husband was agreeing, but when I asked him if he was still on the line, he wasn't there. My husband told me that they were telling him that I was now agreeing to this even though he could no longer hear my voice. We were now communicating on our cell phones together as well. At that moment, we knew we were being coerced into something we did not want or asked for and hung up. They called back. Mr. Clark then took over the conversation and proceeded to tell me that I should be sending him cookies, sending him thank you notes, sending him smiles because he was going to save my credit. He said that my company was going to cancel my card and increase my interest. I tried several times to stop him because I was at work and was now feeling I was being harassed. He kept trying to scare me into doing this, despite the fact I kept saying no and wanted to end the conversation. I told him that I wanted to speak with my card company directly and he said that I could not do that. I told him to give me some time to review my credit card status. He told me I only had 13 minutes left on the clock and he would make the call, but that I was not allowed to say a word. I told him I would not do that -- I wanted to tell the company that I was being forced to do this by this man and that I did not want to lose my card. He told me that I would regret this day for the rest of my life. To write this day and time down because I would regret this day. He was charging my credit card for doing nothing and sending me to a collection agency. My credit would be ruined. I was now feeling threatened and my husband and I both hung up.

Of course, I immediately got off the phone and called my credit card company directly. I spoke with Fraud/Security. I explained the situation and answered all the appropriate security questions. They suggested the best way to handle this was to cancel the card account and reissue a new account. I agreed. She said that she would indicate that the card was being closed due to "identity theft."
