Received today at least the 4th recorded message over the past few months, this time with "Tony Miller" specifically citing "check fraud charges" and "attempt to defraud a financial institution" and threatening to go to Human Resources. Interestingly, my husband, who is the one they called for, has not written a check in 15 or 20 years--I handle all that. I reported the first call to the local police who said it sounded like a scam. One of the earlier messages ended with "you have been served." I thought, who "serves" anything legal by recorded message left on answering machine. I pity people who may become frightened by the language in the message.
2nd time in 2 weeks some lawyer or legal assistant or collector or unemployed circus clown called to threaten a "Nicki Adel" with legal action re.: a bounced check. Interesting they share such damning information with someone, without verifying who owns the phone number. Actually, as I reminded their dim bulb receptionist, the number they called about has been mine for 7 years. Can you say, "Incompetents"? I knew you could.
Fake call about fraudulent checks, gave case number and threatened to contact my human resources office to serve me, was not even my name. Called back got hung up on, tried again woman answered asked my name and said they would remove my number.
My number is unlisted, no way for them to get it unless fraud involved.
