I just got a call from someone pretending to be Walgreens. They know my first and last name. I did not answer, but I checked voicemail. The voicemail said there is a refill ready for pick up. I called the Walgreens I go to.
I said, “I got this call from Omaha, Nebraska from someone and I think they are pretending to be Walgreens. They said to call some 800 number, but that’s not the number that called me.”
She said, “Walgreens would never tell you to call any 800 number. Only call the local number in your area. There is a Walgreens scam out there and I’m telling my manager. Do not trust those phone numbers.” The number that called me: 402-220-1100. They told me to call this number: 1-800-289-1179.
I do not need or have any refills, so this call was a #scam.

the 773 number keeps claiming it is the last message to lower credit card interest. Yet they have called more than 5 times in the last month. Please stop them. Shut them down.

That's strange. This service just started from Walgreens at the end of 2011/beginning of 2012. They try you twice and on the 2nd call it is supposed to leave a message with an 800 number to call back into. You can call your local Walgreens and ask about "Refill Reminder" calls. You can opt out of future calls by answering the next time they call and there is a prompt to pres "8".

I recieved one of these calls recently from Walgreens. I talked to my pharmacist and they said it is a new, free service that you don't have to sign up for. They call you about 3 days before you are set to expire on your medication. The number that is used is the home phone number you give Walgreens. You can opt out of these calls by listening for the prompt that tells you to press 8.
The call will ask for your birthdate, but they have to due to HIPPA privacy laws around medication. You can reorder directly from the call.
