Every time you get a phone call report the phone call to the Do Not Call list and other agencies. Also keep updating these forums.

Do Not Call List

Federal Trade Commision

State attorney General

If you decide to call them don't give out your name since they probably have the wrong number. Make them tell you who they are calling.

If they know your name then make them put any debt they claim you owe in writing. Do NOT admit to owing any debt and make them mail you a letter first. If you get a letter it will probably be so vague that you don't know what the debt is for. Make them provide more information and they probably can't prove you owe anything or it is way past the statute of limitations. Even if you are honest and owe the debt these creeps don't deserve to be paid just because of the way they act.

Do not give out your bank account number, social security number or credit card number over the phone. They may try high pressure tactics to scare you and get you to pay over the phone but don't do it. It the conversation sounds even a little bit threatening file a police report.

The caller Finnegan claimed that I owed a debt paid out from Chase on a student loan. I told him that I owed nothing. I did the research with Chase Financial student loans department, and they said they had no record of me ever owing anything to them. Chase told me the companies that they use for debt collections. I also, several years ago, contacted Bank One which Chase had bought out, and they had no such record of me owing anything nor did those that managed their student loans.
Probably most Banks use other companies to manage their student loans & will tell you those companies names. I followed up on those to see if they had my loan or sold to anyone else, and none had. Caller ID: 800 Service

The guy on the phone of the so-called debt collections agency told me to ask Chase of a certain company's name that he got his claim from, but Chase stated that they don't use such service. All of my student loans were consolidated with Sallie Mae. Actually, I wonder how that scamming company ever got my new number which is through a broadband service. I think that someone on the inside of Chase may have sold my info to that guy. They even had called back to me my social security number, but I never owned up to it, I even shuffled around to avoid answering if the address was correct. I did once get a letter form this company via US mail. Any how you can report it on the National Do Not Call list, and FCC.GOV For those that don't know FCC is Federal Communications Commission. Some weeks later the FCC replied to me by mail when I reported some other solicitor's call in spanish. I didn't understand it & could have been the same as the one I'm complaining here about now.

If you decide to call them back then don't give them your name and make them tell you who they are calling for. Since they probably have the wrong number they wouldn't know your name.

They buy junk debt that is way past the statute of limitations. This would be an easy way to rip off honest people since most people don't keep records from years ago.

If they have your name and claim you owe debt do NOT give them any information over the phone such as bank account number, credit card number or social security number. Make them confirm any debt in writing.

Also during the conversation try mentioning the words "police report" or "contacting state attorney general" and see if they suddenly hang up".
