This WAS a legitimate call from Chase. They were following up on an online banking issue for which they had created a case number. All fixed now,
I received a call sent from 8009927169 asking me to call back at (877) 747-9125. This was a legitimate response to an inquiry i made recently about my Chase credit card. The person i spoke to knew all the details about my inquiry before i said anything about it.
It is from Chase bank tech department.
8009927169 was the incoming call number but there were RED FLAGS it was NOT A LEGITIMATE CHASE CALL! the clear female American English sounding voicemail said to call back 877-747-9125. ext 1290635.
HERE IS THE VOICEMAIL: "Hello this is Noble Dixon. I'm calling from Chase Bank. This message is for (my first name, last name fumble) I’m sorry (last name mispronounced- it’s only several letters) Please return my call at your earliest convenience. My phone number is 877-747-9125. My extension is 1290635. and i AM(emphasis) available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm central standard time. Thank you."
First, the whole voicemail did not identify herself more than a name, and no mention of any problem like a real bank does, nothing about why they call- even other fraud calls say they got money for you..
Secondly, banks don't do this. The legitimate calls (I rarely used to get yrs ago) from banks, they left a number to call back their Fraud Line, and only to verify a purchase we actually made that was alerted in their system. Any other time WE INITIATE THE CALL TO THE BANK and the person or dept with a case confirmation number would be calling back.
Thirdly, they said to call back at your convenience, but then gave specific times M-F when to call back! And this call/voicemail came on a Saturday!! That was strange, illogical, that does NOT happen with a legitimate business call!!
Fourth, It sounded like a real person because they used my name, even re-saying it because they mispronounced it, both times. But the first stumble sounded too nervous-like, something that is abnormal. The language wording was oddly mixed with proper and familiar that doesn't happen with legitimate business calls. Usually you say “Mon thru Fri 8 to 4,” not adding “between the hours of..” It was like reading a full legal statement.
Fifth, the call back number is totally different, and especially the 7 digit “extension” number! I’ve never heard of an extension number of a real office person with that long of a ext. number. And people don’t phrase the extension number separately like she did; you just say your tele number and “extension 123.” I know i see and hear details and patterns much more than others, but try to pay attention to if it’s like other legitimate business calls, wording, what is said or not.
