Yes, when ever you call the local IRS office and ask for someone that someone will usually call back using this number. This is one of their numbers they usually call out from. That's all, no bigger.

Received a call from the IRS appointment scheduling desk to inform us that our previously scheduled appointment was going to need to be rescheduled due to the IRS office not being open at that time.
Legitimate call.

This is a legit IRS outbound number. I received the call only after I gave the IRS permission to call. Caller will leave a call back number which is different from this number.

Called asking for someone else. They left a message, saying their name was Don Peck, (605) 377-1607. I saw this person's name on a page listing IRS employees with the 605 area code, but not at that number. I left a message, but the person on the Voice Mail (scammers have voice mail?) called himself "Al Peck". I gave him my name and number, and said "Sandra X" (the person he was looking for) didn't live here. Unfortunately, I have an unlisted number. He was probably using a random dialer and asked for a random name. Now he has my name Will he try to scam call me? I'm going to call the IRS in South Dakota and try to reach Don Peck that way. If this is a scam, they're doing a pretty good job, not like the silly stuff they usually pull.

Caller stated he was from the IRS. I asked him what the call was in reference to and he stated "I think you know." I asked if he was representing the United States IRS and he said "yes"

Someone called and said that they never received a tax filing for 2014 and that they'd sent me a letter back in June bringing this to my attention. I never received such a letter. I then asked them to fax me the details, including the letter. They never did. I did check my files to see if I'd filed the form (I did). The scary thing is that the woman who called knew what the form was for and how much was owed, as well as our business address.

Pretending to be the IRS. They call you when their local scammers fail to trick you.

Left a message claiming to be Ms. Martinez from the IRS trying to track down a business associate. Huh? Didn't know they could target 3rd parties. Left a local number to return the call.
