Today I got two silent calls (i.e. no one responded when I picked up and asked "Hello?") on my cell phone from this number that I've never seen before. They called a third time, too, but by that time I was fed up and didn't bother picking up.
I've had this number for quite a while, so it's not conceivable that they were expecting a previous owner of this number.
A computer voice states they have a call for (name) if you are not that person hang otherwise stay on line. Again the computer voice asks if you are (name) they have a message and press 1. After pressin 1 you are told it is a collection agency attempting to collect a debt. They tell you press another number you are then told to call them back at a toll-free and also given a reference or file number. They do not tell you they will be giving that info, so if you dont happen to have any thing to write with you dont get the info or even a second chance to get it. Although I sent them a dispute letter requesting validation of debt and they have only 30 days to respond (which they have not) I was told when I called back the computer voice called in error and shouldnt call back again. They may know the law in New York but not California so hopefully they wont call back
