There are many collection agencies who pose themselves as law firms and investigators. By law and according to FDCPA it is illegal. FBI National Press has been investigating many cases from victims who are contacted by debt collectors for debt not own by them and some who are. They use the scare tactic to make them pay. Do not give personally information, or account information for payments. Legit companies will stop complying to you after you tell them to cease contact. These companies do not due to the fact they are frauds! By law you have the right to report them, cease contact, and stop calls! FTC get reports like this everyday! Harassing is illegal and contacting family members or place of employment with abusive language is illegal. It illegal to tell others besides the consumer personal business matter. If they cannot contact someone once or twice they cannot contact you anymore! Know your rights! You cannot go to jail for payday loans or other debts. Jail cells are made for real crime not these!
