We received a call from "Frank" on my Cell Phone. "Frank" said he was working in "expired credit card accounts" but never told us which credit card. After the usual bogus pleasantries, he said we had an expired credit card account with a $1,000.00+ balance. When I told him I had no idea what he was talking about, he said, "Don't you remember taking a cruise to the Bahamas in 2011?" At that point, I told him nope and handed him off to my husband. He was equally perplexed, and perturbed when "Frank" told him he was going to charge $1000.00 to my credit card account. I yelled out, "if he tries it I'm turning him over to the authorities!" My husband tried to hand the phone back to me, but inadvertently hung it up instead. After some discussion, we remembered a "FREE" 3 day cruise to the Bahamas that was given to us by our window company in partial compensation for some delay issues. We upgraded the cabin for $99.00 and then the entire cruise was abruptly canceled by the company as there was a hurricane in the area. No cruise was taken and no charges ever showed up on or bills as we had canceled the charge with our credit card company. I had the distinct feeling this was a scam and my husband even told "Frank" the same. Beware, someone out there has information on expired credit card accounts. We NEVER give authorization for charges or any information over the phone, period!
On the rare occasion that something other than an immediate hang-up by the calling party occurs, the representative on the line requests personal information, claiming that it is necessary to claim a free cruise vacation and free new car that have been won from a drawing that I never entered and that they won't tell me about. The also will not disclose their name, company name, or any other information about why they are calling. I only have the two most recent calls logged, though there have been one per day for the past couple months.
