Hi! I work for SSA, at our HQ in Woodlawn, MD. the 410-965-1234 phone # appears on everyone's caller ID because it's a general outbound calling # that gets routed to our National 1-800-772-1213 Tele-service Centers if you call it back. We do call on Saturdays & Sundays, when we have the OT in the budget & to be onsite. But I always encourage my claimants, and family to be leary of giving out any info over the phone. If you're not comfortable discussing it with the person that called you, you can, AND SHOULD, go into your local field office to verify anything.
We should never be asking for you to give us your info. Typically we will provide your info to you, in order to verify it, i.e. SSN, DOB, Address, Attorney, Direct Deposit, etc. But, again, if you do not feel comfortable giving that info out, then you don't, and should not, have to.
All the best,
Brian
