They left a message saying it related to a criminal charge against the resident and left a number saying if they didn't hear back you might die... really? I can't believe they said that it blows my mind.

I too have this telephone number listed as that for solicitation of clothing, small appliances, furniture, etc. for The National Childrens' Center. I spoke with the individual one time and told him that NCC used to have employees or volunteers call directly in such a way that one knew it was from NCC; and stated he might wish to add NCC Donor Services or similar id to his phone so those who receive such calls realize calls are for a legitimate charitable organization.
