Robocalls: Government Scam Calls

Robocalls that pose to be legitimate government agencies but are in reality scams are labeled as "government scams". There are various types of government scams, with the IRS being impersonated being the most common. This is where a robocall is made pretending to be an IRS employee trying to trick you into believing that you committed tax fraud or owe the IRS taxes. Oftentimes, these scams can be very convincing, as they will have access to your personal information about you, such as your address and even your social security number. Other common government agencies that are used in these calls are the Social Security Administration, Medicare, or local law enforcement. All of these government scam robocalls are illegal, and you should never wire anyone money based off of threats made in a phone call. The best practice to avoid getting scammed is to call the government agency the caller is claiming to be apart of, and asking them to confirm you are truly talking to one of their employees. You can also ask them if they are needing you to pay tax or answer questions related to a crime the caller is talking about. If the real government agency says you are talking to a scammer, you should hang up and block the number.

I originally received a call from a local number and area code. They did not leave a message. I *67 the local number, and it said it was not a valid number or wireless customer could not be reached. It then provided this 800 number, which is linked to various AT&T locations. SCREW YOU SPAMMERS!

Pretty good scam. If I hadn't of checked here first would have been easy to fall for.
I received text message my ATT address had been changed & to call if was done in error. Got the ATT jingle when called. They connected me to a representative & I asked if they were ATT and she said yes. Got my phone number then wanted last 4 digits of my SS #. Told her I didn't feel safe doing that since the number came from a text. Since no one else has my SS # guess I didn't have anything to worry about, that just means they could not have changed my address.

Robocall claiming they were AT&T and that I had won a $100 gift card for being a loyal customer. Pressed 1 to continue, then they asked for my phone number. Then my 4 digit PIN. That was were I hung up.

Received call tonight. Answered and was recording from “ATT” saying my account was suspended. I hung up, checked account and it’s fine.

I called back just now to see how the number was answered and if someone didn’t know better, they might think it was legit because it plays the ATT jingle. I knew was fake bc I heard clicking noises before the recording. Gosh I hope I’m not charged some hideous Nigeria phone charge for calling the number back lol

Coouldn'thear what she called the company, but she clearly said tht my account had been suspended. Since all our accounts are in good shape, I doubt it. In any case, they said they'd call back in 30-35 minutes. If they do, Ill add what info I can get.

I didn't answer the call but was left a automated message saying that my AT&T account was suspended pending verification.... I don't have an AT&T account so I can safely assume that this was a phishing call.

Received call on this number new it was a spam when he ask for my pin. Hung up on him Call ATT they acknowledge that it was a scam and there number had been spooked

Left a message as att, saying that my phone was going to be disconnected due to suspicious activity. My husband and I are on the same account, so I know this was false.

Called saying they were going to give me a $20 credit per line because of an inconvenience of transitioning towers tonight at midnight. I want to know how they got so much info from ATT. They had my Email, my home address, and all my phone number on my account. What is going on?

It is NOT AT&T Calling. It is a SCAMMER using technology to mask his number and make your caller I.D. think it's an AT&T number. Whether you get an actual person or electronic voice DO NOT speak to them and DO NOT press anything on your phone except to HANG UP! If you do you may get a 3rd party charge on your phone, so keep an eye on your Bill. It's a phishing scam. If they get you to give them your PIN or say "Yes" or press a number which means YES then you are on for a world of headaches. DO NOT try and outsmart them, catch them or trick them and do not call them back. All you will do is get frustrated and probably get a fraudulent charge. There may even be a charge per minute for anyone staying on the line more then 30 seconds. JUST HANG UP AND BLOCK THEM!!!
