What are "Government Scams"?
Robocalls that pose to be calls from a legitimate government agency are referred to as "government scams". There are many different forms of these government scams, but the most common is an IRS scam call. This is where a scammer calls you and tells you that you haven’t paid your taxes and there is a warrant out for your arrest. During this call, they will ask you for your social security number, bank account information, home address, and much more. These calls can be very convincing, as they already know your name and possibly know where you work, but they should not be trusted. There are other government scams such as Social Security Administration calls, medicare calls, and police department calls. All of these scam calls will consist of the caller asking for your information and threaten that you will face consequences if you do not give them what they want. These types of calls are illegal, and they should be reported to the police immediately. The best way to avoid becoming a victim to these callers is by hanging up and calling the agency the caller claimed to be apart of. Simply end the call, and call the number of the real agency to see if they truly are needing your information.
