As this was an 800 number I did not answer it when they phoned. But, with calls morning and evening I called the number and they also said they were American Express and wanted my card # and information. I called the number on the back of my card and I have no activity on my account and owe nothing.

This is supposedly American Express Fraud Unit. Many are receiving calls from this #, or via e-mail prompting AMEX members to call as there is questionable transactions on the the account.

I recently received calls from this # and decided to contact AMEX directly. I work in Law Enforcement, trust no e-mail; my motto. AMEX stated they were unfamiliar with the 800 number and there were no security alerts attached to my card as I haven't made a purchase on it in 6 months. So, beware

I too received an email today from amex. I called the number on my card and confirmed that there were fraudulent charges pending on my account. I also see that number listed in their website.
