iphone 5. the call instructed me to go to a strange website to claim a free iphone 5. i called the number back and it was indeed verizon wireless. i think the call was a fake call from someone else other than verizon wireless.

As this looks like an inside job, i.e. an employee stealing credit card information, folk will switch carriers and Verizon should take note.

Personally I don't answer toll free numbers, because if they're genuine they'll leave a message.

Best advice is to add them to your address book, say with the letter 'S' for scammer, and set the ringer to silent. Voila!

I have around a hundred of these numbers in my address book, and they no longer waste my time, or leave me vulnerable to a scam.
