I called Capital One as I am a card holder in good with standing & always have been. It turns out that this is their collections department looking for my ex husband. If they are calling you & you do not own an account it could be because you are related or a friend to someone on their collections list, that's what they do, they track down people who know them, I was told this by the customer service rep himself. You can call capital one at 1-800-955-7070 & have them block your number so they will no longer bother you.

This number is not associated with Capital One. It is operated by a criminal ring which attempts to obtain your social security number and cc acct # while pretending to be part of Capital One's debt collection department. If you choose to call back 800 955 6600, the main number will ask you to enter your credit card number and then your NINE digit social security number. This is one method they will obtain your personal info illegally. If you called the actual Capital One, they would only ask for the last FOUR digits of your social security number via their automated system -NOT your ENTIRE social security number.

These criminals have various other methods to gain your personal info while talking with you. They will claim you have an outstanding debt issue and then confirm with you a wrong account number. To clear up the issue, you will then 'correct' their info by providing your actual numbers. Scam complete. This is a very sophisticated operation.

Its interesting that neither Capital One nor Law Enforcement can or will stop this abuse.
