This number called my landline 3 times. What happens if you responded because you thought it was from your job? It just said to press "1".

Left voicemail claiming to be the Air Force with an important message.

That’s NOT how the Air Force gets ahold of us.

My work uses this system to notify employees about emergencies, like fire evacuation or weather hazards requiring us to move to shelter locations.

Since at least 01JAN2012, this number has been used by MIR3 for the US Navy Alert System nationwide, most college campuses and many large businesses use it to inform employees of major events, work closings and for testing the system.

Everyone who receives a call either requested it, their school/employer requires employees to sign up or perhaps some employee did not want to be in the system, so provided a bogus phone number. (Read "Your phone number!") The number may change to one of two alternates: 1-800-330-5889, or 1-800-823-1167. Recommend that you program all three numbers into your cellular phone and associate them with a work/school alert. If you do not answer, the system is designed to leave a message on your voice mail. If you do not have voice mail, you may call the same number back, but you will need your employer/school supplied code number to hear the message. Often folks will receive 2 to 3 calls in a short period of time, then may go months before the next call.

Some employers require folks to respond to at least one message or the messages keep getting sent! The normal response is inputting a “1” AFTER listening to the complete message. Many organizations also send out a e-mail notifications by the same outfit or in-house.

If you are certain you are receiving these calls in error, I believe that you can call theMIR3 support at 1-800489-8611 or the MIR3 real-human number 1-858-724-1200 or visit their web site at www.mir3.com and explain the situation. Normally one needs to go through their employer/school to make alert changes.

called 5 times between 2:30am and 6:00am. It was a recorded message claiming to be a police offical. When I called the # back they ask for a "taleffany ID#" ? don't know what that is. It's not only annoying but frightening to get calls in the middle of the night. The calls were made to my cell phone, not landline.
