Got the automated voicemail. Knew it was a scam right away. CRA doesn't call from an area code, usually unknown/unlisted number, and they don't leave messages. They'll always send a reassessment in the mail first. I called them back and found that I owed over $7000, and that if I didn't pay right away, my drivers license would be suspended (what that has to do with CRA is beyond me), my assets would be seized and my bank accounts frozen. When I said that I have no assets because I live on the street, and haven't filed a return in 20 years, called me an asshole and hung up. Since then, I call-blocked my number and I've been calling them back regularly and hanging up. This number appears to be non functioning now, but before this happened, I did manage to engage the idiot on the other end. At first, he told me CRA was closed, then that the number I had called was a private number and I had the wrong number. When I made it clear that I knew about his scam and that his number was now in a database of scam numbers and he would be tracked down, he became abusive and vulgar and outright told me he had scammed lots of people, everyday (I guess in his circle that's something to brag about). Since then I've been harassing him regularly, but last night, the number appeared to be non functional, called failed each time.
Just got the call ... this is becoming annoying ...
Just received a call from this "CRA" robocaller, stating they were going to file a law suit. blah blah "final notice"...blah blah. I chose to google the number first.....glad I did....sounds like a scam.
Just got the call as well. Called back...rang a few times then went to a busy signal. After reading this thread, I feel better... kind of freaked me out as I could't imagine why they would be taking action against me... just another scam..phew! :-)
I received a Robo phone call from the "CRA" telling me they were going to sue me. I have a small business and freaked out until I read this post. Relieved that its not real but feel sheepish that I fell for it.
