@sucker-yes they have no legal way to recover debt unless they file through court within Two years after your last payment, or after two years they trick you into either making a payment or getting you to acknowledge in writing that you owe them (who would do that?). Either of those moves essentially resets everything that gives them full legal right again. Of course that rarely happens so they harass you.
But there is no law against them attempting to contact you.
This caller is committing fraud ccc.
CIBC trying to collect on a statute-barred credit card loan. They are aware the debt is not collectable and work on the presumption that a percentage of the people who were stupid enough to borrow money from CIBC in the first place might be stupid enough to think the two-year Ontario statute doesn't apply to them if the debt collector or assignee is out of province. CBV and CIBC are operating in breach of two provincial statutes and the Federal Criminal Code. It doesn't particularly faze them. Large banks in Canada have a view they control the government rather thaan the other way round and use and abuse statute and common law at will.
