I received a text from 800-386-6624 stating I had a $581.20 charge to Wilde Honda - I don't have a Citi Bank card, but seeing all of my accounts were hacked into last year - I called and entered the pin # - it wasn't even for me it was for a different person and it stated the case was resolved. At least get the name right if texting somebody - a total scam.

It's a scam!!!! I received a fraud alert from this number, but the funny thing is that I don't haven a Citibank card. Checked my credit report to see if I there was a card taken out in my name. Nope!

Mine was legit. First, log into your account online. The alert should show up first thing. Then look at your charges. Then call the number your online account says.

I just called the number on the back of my credit card after receiving a text message with the above number. It is a legitimate text from the Citibank Fraud Department. There were fraudulent charges made to my card.

I got a message from this number saying to contact them back about fraudulent charges. I called but I was worried when they kept asking for information to access my account so I hung up and went online and used the online contact number. On my online banking there was an alert notice but when I talked to the Citibank representative it ends up there are no transactions being processed fraudulent or otherwise. So to sum up this number maybe connected to Citibank but what went on with me still felt fishy.

This is a giant scam. Even the posts here saying that it's legit are completely full of crap. Or they are just REALLY dumb people who apparently don't know how to protect their personal information.

Why do I know this? I don't even OWN a credit card let alone one from Citi. So, huge thanks to the morons who someone got my phone number because it's one of my life passions to screw with you moronic scammers. You have given me your number and now I have full means to completely screw with you. I'm sure you're going to read this post, you dumb scamming fools, and understand that you're going to extremely regret that you even TRY to scam ANYONE.

Also, Citi, you REALLY need to do something about this because it makes your company look badly. I know they don't care because they are a credit card company and only care about raping people out of money, much like the scam artists, but obviously it's going to eventually lead to some bad press. Good job, all around everyone.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should dig deeper. Maybe someone DID open a credit card under your name and you don't know it yet. Or maybe the number was spoofed by scammers. But I advise to everyone else that if you get a text from this number at least look into it. I am a Citibank customer and I did get a text from 800-386-6624 about a $427 suspicious charge at a Target on the other side of the country. I didn't answer the text - in fact, it looked suspicious itself since it was sloppily written but I chalked it up to the automated system, and since the text contained the last four digits of my card it was hard to ignore. Called the number, sounded very well recorded to be the work of amateurs and didn't ask for personal info, but still didn't take it all the way to the end. Logged into the Citi website, the same I've been using for years to pay my bill, and there it was right on the first page: a warning about the $427 Target charged along with five or so other charges from all over the country totaling over $1,000. Marked the charges as fraudulent and Citi closed my account and issued a new card. So the text was definitely legit. YMMV.

To all claiming this is a scam - you are mistaken. This is a legit Citibank
fraud alert number. Just go online and check your account and you will
see the attempted false purchase. I'm glad they flag unusual activity and
notify the customer before any harm is done. Citibank closed my account
and setup a new one for me within 1 day. (800) 386-6624 is NOT a scam
and if you choose to ignore, it's at your own peril.

My elderly mom got two calls from this number today and has no account with Citibank. It's a scam. So why are so many people on this site saying it isn't? No doubt because they are the phishers themselves. Great advice: If you get any kind of call from someone claiming to be your bank, hang up and call the phone number on the back of your actual credit card or on your statement. That's the best way to be sure you're not being scammed.

4/8/2017 Message claimed to be a Citi credit card fraud alert. To be safe, I called the customer service number on the back of my credit card instead. It was a legit fraud alert. My card was fraudulently used in a far away state for $20 at a gas station. The real card is in my possession so this had to be a fake card created from stolen credit card numbers. Citi immediately cancelled the card & will reissue a new one.

I just got an automated call on my home phone from 800-386-6624 claiming to be Citibank Fraud Detection. They knew my name and the last 4 digits of my credit card. I called the Citi Customer Service phone number on the back of my card to make sure I reached Citibank, and not a scammer. An automated system asked for my card number and then forwarded my to an automated fraud detection system. The system had me confirm the last 3 charges, which were good, and that was all. No other information was requested.

I just got a text telling me to call this #. But instead I called the # on the back of my Citi card. There was over $1100 in fraudulent charges - from 3 different states. I don't use this card on a daily basis, but had used it in February to buy concert tickets. Lesson learned, never again with this card. Anyway, the charge today was a little over $700 and the reason it was flagged was because it originated in Puerto Rico. The other charges had occurred earlier this month, one for over $300 in California and one for about $100 in Alabama. It's legit folks. But err on the side of caution and call the # on the back of your citicard.

This # does belong to City Fraud dept. However, card holders should always call the 800 # on the back of their card to be on the safe side as crooks have become very smart in spoofing #s. Somebody tried to charge $5.00 in San Diego which was declined and which prompted the call from Citi bank. Card is now cancelled and a new one will be issued with new #s. Crooks usually try to charge $1.00 - $5.00 to see if they are successful @ a gas station or Ancestry.com.

ITS A LEGIT CALL FROM CITI FRUAD DEPT..

Yes. It was a legit inquiry on a charge I had just made. I think the best indication it was not a scam was that they left a message. I verified before calling back by logging into the account online. Was actually able to take care of it there.

I called the actual number on the back of my card and discovered there was a fraud alert and 800 386 6624 was truly their fraud alert number. They had already cancelled my card and voided the charges that were red flags. Call the number on the card if in doubt. It was legit for me.
