My client a religious nonprofit organization received a letter in the mail stating that the organization owes $86,000 for taxes. The letter did not have a return address, a contact person, on a telephone number 800-572-0846.

Upon calling the number, a gentleman answered requesting the following information
Did you receive a letter in the mail?
Do you owe state or federal taxes?
I told him my client does not owe any state or federal taxes. He stated that his office consists of accountants, enrolled agents and attorneys who help tax payers with delinquent taxes.

Upon telling him that the federal and state government sends a letter with a return address and contact information, he hung up the phone.

The people at this telephone number are not professional business people. They do not disclose the address off their business and contact person in mail correspondence. Also, when you call the number they do not identify the name of their business and they are asking defensive questions why did you call them

Also, in telling them that my client does not have any tax liability because their payroll is paid through PayChex the person hung up the phone. Upon calling back the number immediately the person said do not call the number again.

This number 800-572-0846 is not a legitimate a business. They send letters threatening people to collect a debt that does not exist.
