Sent my wife and I a letter saying our daughter owed close to $30,000 for school loans. Funny thing... She had nearly full scholarships, we paid what little was left. She graduated 9 years ago, we have never heard of any loans. Also, she passed away 5 years ago. When I called the number(s) in the letter, they could not bring up any information from the reference # in the letter, but wanted us to send her death certificate. Would not or could not produce any info who the creditor/lender is, or why we have heard nothing from anyone since she graduated. Talked to at least 3 individuals, left message to 2 others. Total scam or attempt to obtain info for identity theft as far as I'm concerned... You're telling me a collection agency has no info regarding the creditor, or if they have the info, they can't give it to you?!
When I mentioned I have all the names of the people I talked to, as well as possibly recording the conversations, heard arrogant response from one guy, a lot of stammering from another.. One guy put me on hold and never came back.
