This number has been widely reported as a phishing / identity theft scam. If you think you may actually owe Verizon money, hang up, then dial *611 on your Verizon cellphone. Then you can be sure you're really talking to Verizon.

this just calls, doesn't leave a number or the reason for the call. Since I don't know who is calling, I just do not answer.

This is the Verizon Wireless message retrieval system. It is totally automated. You have to call it back so that it can match the phone you are on to its records. If it called in error, it allows you to hit the star key to cancel it. If it tells you that it matches their records, you get a recorded message telling you the amount of your overdue bill and how to pay it over the phone.

Can be very annoying in times of day it calls. It called my cell phone at 10:53 this am and my house phone 1 minute later. Caller ID read Jacksonville, NC, but I've had Clearwater, FL before.

Just calls; never leaves a message.

I get calls from this number now and then and just ignore it. They never leave a message.
