What is a Government Scam Call?

Robocalls that consist of a caller trying to pose as any type of government agency is referred to as a "government scam" call. During these calls, a person will try to convince you that they are an employee of a government agency and that you owe them money or are wanted for arrest. They make these calls in hopes that their victims will wire them money out of the fear of being arrested. You should know, that no government agency will call you and ask you to wire them money over the phone. The most common form of a government scam is the caller pretending to be an IRS employee, and they will tell you that you must send them money to their bank account in order to not be arrested. Other forms of these calls are people pretending to be a part of the Social Security Administration, the FBI, a local police department, or Medicare. These calls can be very convincing as they will know your name, address, and social security number, but you should not trust them. If you are unsure if you are speaking to a government agency or not, you can call the real agency to confirm that it was not them calling you.

Called my parents - I haven't lived at that number for 30 years (!) - and recorded message said I owed a $150 bill to Verizon. Haven't had a telephone in my name in years.

Caller: Recorded message identified themselves as Penn Credit.

Penn Credit Corp SCAM said I owe Water bill from 12/2014, I lived in apartments at that time. No Bills for Water. Said Creditor was Fulton County Water and Sewer, Called them and verified I never had a account with them at that address and have no balance.

THey wanted my credit card number or checking account with routing. YEAH not gonna happen. Not getting my accounts drained TODAY BY SCAMMER> Wish these people would catch the PLague.

Collection Company has called a number of times. There are hangup noted on Caller ID when we do not answer the phone. If we do answer, they always ask for a person that doesn't live here

Keep calling with a recording (illegal) and giving you no way to talk to a human being, just tell you to mail in a payment! Claim to be from Penn Credit on the recording, but again it all just sounds like a scam. I don't owe anybody anything and have flawless credit.

They called my Grandma's house looking for me. I google the number and find this. I OWE NO ONE. I HAVE ZERO DEBT. No clue why they're contacting her/me.

I didn't pick it up they left no message. The number it came on is an old cell phone number that I ported to my magic jack account. So it might be an old bill. If they won't leave a message I won't pick up

Calls daily, no message left. If I answer I get a recording asking for a person whose name is mumbled and unintelligible.

Caller leaves message about a person named James and I cannot understand the last name. The message says that it is important personal business and James needs to get in touch because it is important. I tried dialing the number and it will not even ring. This call came through on my phone three times this morning. Please stop calling here. This is a public place of business and not a person's home.

I owe nothing, but receive this call every day - multiple times per day too. This is harassment and will follow-up to report to all pertinent agencies. I hope everyone else does too.

I am called every weekend at any hour. If I call back I am told to call during business hours.

If robots can call and interrupt my day and night with calls for people that I do not nor ever have known why can I not stop this harassment.

This type of calling should be outlawed. It is intrusive and uncalled for at minimum.

I get calls from them too. Asking me to listen to a business deal. Then, they hang up. I have bills from PCH contests. I can't pay them as I have no checking account. These people seem to use this to find the party they want waiting for you to identify yourself. They record that and know you're the person they're trying to reach. Do you owe PCH Contest billing Dept. too?

numerous calls made daily, messages left on answering machine around the clock. looking for an unknown person, unintelligible name is always garbled in message.never an answer when trying to call back . . . this is harassment! Eric Holder not interested in helping unless you are black!

We do not have the person they are looking for living here! They are upsetting my husband, who is having a heart procedure done on 12-10-13. They don't include an option for "this person does not live here" or "I don't know who you're talking about" And, of course, they never are available when we try to call them!

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or FDCPA is all these people need to hear then they will leave you alone.
Also tell them to stop harassing (key word) you.

there has to be someone (OR SOMETHING) on the other end of the line to do this. I never get a recording or a person. and I get nearly DAILY calls. And I AM on DNC list.
